Attention! Attention! This is Free Kossuth Radio Budapest! Prime Minister Imre Nagy has just been on the air and said the following:

This is Imre Nagy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Hungarian People's Republic speaking. In the early hours of the morning soviet troops had started an attack against the Hungarian capital with the apparent purpose of overthrowing the lawful democratic government of the country. Our troops are engaged in battle with the soviet forces. The government is in its place! This is my message to the Hungarian people and to the whole world!

Aujourd'hui a l'aube les troupes soviétiques ont commencé une attaque contre la capitale Hongroise dans l'intention évidente d'abbatre le gouvernement Hongrois légal et démocratique. Nos troupes sont en combat! Le gouvernement est a sa place. J'annonce cela au peuple Hongrois et au monde entier.

Unsere Truppen stehen im Kampfe! Die Regierung steht an seinem Post!
